Afterlife

Guy Cramer

I’ve wondered what those who’ve gone before me think
Looking through their glass floor galaxy at my day to day

The time I helped that old lady across the street
What I did in the bathroom ten minutes ago
And why I still stream the same Madmen episodes

And the Goth Girl Darkwave + Postpunk playlist I keep on repeat

With thousands of choices at my fingertips rotting in the digiverse
What compels me to spend the breaths I have left

Googling the meaning of 6 7?

Maybe we have more in common than I thought

As both our existences play through an overstretched ribbon of film

And when I lay my head down
Is that the cue to turn on the stars?
Perhaps they’re the ones behind the reoccurring dream

Where Marilyn is in my bathtub

Donned in a turtleneck of soapsuds
While I stand holding the towel
Waiting for the water to get cold
